This mural was commissioned by the city of Dallas. My composition was chosen from a multitude of entries. The mural was placed at Main Street Garden Park in Dallas for about a year. It was part of a project to beautify the parks.
The Yellow Brick Road and Emerald City can be interpreted in many ways—and here’s how I see it:
A golden path winds through rolling fields of Texas bluebonnets, paying homage to our home state while inviting reflection on how we care for our environment. The yellow-brick road represents a strong, supportive economy—one that uplifts both the city and its people.
It’s a road wide enough for us to walk together, hand-in-hand. Because it’s only through unity that we build a thriving economy rooted in environmentally conscious practices. We move forward by honoring those who struggled before us and recognizing our responsibility to the generations yet to come—seven generations forward, and seven behind.
The road leads to a flourishing green city: Dallas. Not emerald from jewels, but green with life—abundant in foliage, thriving in balance with nature. A city made vibrant through collaboration, sustainability, and care.
The sky is bright and clear, free of pollution, a reflection of our mindful choices. And the rainbow? Simply because joy matters—and rainbows are fun.
